About Us

Intandokazi Community Based Organisation (NPC), a not-for-profit organization that was founded back in 2010. Our mission is to deliver excellent quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) education and social care to vulnerable children in Shakaskraal, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

At Intandokazi, we believe that every child deserves love, care, and support. That’s why we take great pride in being a Public Benefit Organisation, dedicated to serving our community and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

The name “Intandokazi” holds a special place in our hearts, as it means “Favourite” in Zulu. Our goal is to make each child under our care feel cherished and valued, providing them with a nurturing environment that fosters their development and growth.

Currently, we are responsible for 82 young souls, aged from zero months to five years. We understand the crucial role of nutrition in a child’s life, especially in impoverished communities. That’s why we have a nutrition program in place, ensuring that these little ones receive highly nutritious and instant breakfasts and lunches. Nourishing their young minds is one of our most urgent priorities.

Our mission goes beyond just providing education and food. We are committed to uplifting the communities we serve and striving to eradicate poverty among historically disadvantaged individuals. By investing in early childhood education and social care, we hope to break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for these children and their families.

The Hard Truth

Approximately 65% of young children in South Africa live in households with per capita incomes below the poverty line. This staggering figure highlights the significant challenges faced by a large portion of the country’s children in meeting their basic needs and accessing essential services.

Child Poverty

Unemployment rates in South Africa have a profound impact on children. More than 30% of the country’s workforce is unemployed. High unemployment levels result in reduced incomes, limited access to education, and diminished opportunities for children to break free from the cycle of poverty.

Unemployment Impact

Low levels of education compound the difficulties faced by children. Statistics indicate that 45% of the population does not have access to quality education. This lack of education opportunities hurts children’s prospects for a better future and perpetuates socioeconomic disparities.

Education Struggles

Many children in disadvantaged areas face health challenges in South Africa, with malnutrition affecting around 25% of children. Limited access to healthcare services can lead to stunted growth and development, hindering the potential of young minds.

Health and Well-being

In areas experiencing extreme poverty, children are exposed to higher levels of violence and crime, with an estimated 56% of children experiencing violence. This environment has consequences on their emotional well-being, inhibiting their overall growth and development.

Violence and Crime

Basic services such as clean water, a daily meal, sanitation, and electricity are lacking in around 17% of households in impoverished areas. Children growing up in such circumstances face additional hardships in their daily lives and overall well-being.

Vision

At Intandokazi Community Based Organisation (NPC), our vision is to create Sustainable Township Communities. We believe that by uplifting township communities and eradicating poverty, individuals can become self-sustaining, and communities can achieve true economic independence. Our projects place a strong emphasis on empowering youth and young children, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to thrive.

Mission

Our mission is to give communities the tools they need to eradicate poverty. Through education and training, we aim to empower individuals within historically disadvantaged communities and provide them with access to economic opportunities. We are committed to breaking the barriers that hold back people from disadvantaged townships, regardless of their race or gender. Our ultimate goal is to enable every member of the community to overcome poverty and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Happy Kids

Funding

Transparency, accountability, and sustainability are the pillars of our organization. We actively collaborate with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to create a holistic approach towards community development. We can’t do this alone. We need your support to expand our impact and reach even more children in need. Whether you can donate your time, resources, or expertise, every contribution matters.

With your help, we can continue our journey, making sure that every child we serve receives the love, care, education, and support they need to thrive and reach their full potential. Together, we can create a brighter and more promising South African society for all.

To maintain the highest standards of stewardship, our team conducts annual reviews of the allocation of all funds and evaluates the performance of each program. These comprehensive assessments are then presented to our esteemed board of directors, ensuring that decisions are made with the utmost diligence and consideration.

For non-allocated funds that have been generously donated, we exercise a responsible and thoughtful approach. We conduct careful assessments and evaluations to determine the most suitable program to which these funds can be allocated. This process is guided by our commitment to maximizing the impact of each donation and aligning it with our organization’s overarching mission and objectives.

At Intandokazi Community Based Organisation (NPC), we deeply value the trust our donors place in us, and we remain dedicated to the responsible and effective utilization of all contributions. By maintaining transparency, conducting thorough evaluations, and making informed decisions, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and communities we serve. Together with our supporters, we continue to work towards uplifting those in need and creating a brighter, more promising future for all.
